Endless patient phone calls. A full appointment schedule. Patients running late. A new EHR system. A sick receptionist. Sales reps asking to see you. And it’s only 9 a.m. Sound familiar? We all have that to-do list that just keeps on growing, and often takes time away from the “big picture.” The big picture that would streamline your office operations, improve your revenue, and most importantly improve your interactions with your patients.
Sure, we would all like an hour or two more in our day to get things done. But that’s not realistic…so what about just 15 minutes? The best piece of advice I have ever been given was by one of my first mentors 20+ years ago. She said to set aside at least 15 minutes a day to do something that wasn’t on that to-do list. It could be catching up on industry-related articles, emails, case studies, etc. She said it would help keep me fresh, inspired and educated about the world outside our office.
I admit it has been hard at times to do this. But it has proven to be very valuable. I have found some great research, expert advice and developed new partnerships and relationships. So today I pass along that same piece of advice. Set aside 15 minutes in your day to do the same. I promise after a month or two, you will find that you have gained some good information to help you and your practice.
